A 44-year-old pedestrian was killed by a suspected DUI driver in a collision Thursday night in the Colina Del Sol neighborhood, authorities reported Friday.

San Diego Police Lt. Clinton Leisz said officers were called to the intersection of 50th Street and El Cajon Boulevard  at 9:10 p.m. where they learned the victim was running across El Cajon Boulevard prior to the collision.

Leisz said the driver, a 20-year-old man, was heading east on El Cajon when the pedestrian stopped, turned around and was struck.

The pedestrian suffered major head trauma in the collision and was was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:37 p.m., Leisz said.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The department’s Traffic Division is investigating the collision and anyone with information related to it was asked to call 858-495-7800 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
