A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a pickup truck on Winter Gardens Boulevard in Lakeside, the California Highway Patrol said Wednesday.
On Tuesday at about 8:05 p.m., a man was riding a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R southbound on Winter Gardens Boulevard, north of Lemon Crest Drive, in the No. 1 lane, at a high rate of speed, said CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber.
At the same time, a 28-year-old man from Lakeside was driving a 2013 Ford F-150 and entered southbound Winter Gardens Boulevard from a public driveway, and drove into the No. 1 lane, the officer said.
“Due to the motorcycle’s high rate of speed, he quickly approached the rear of the Ford and did not slow or stop in time to prevent a crash,” Grieshaber said. “The motorcycle drove directly into the rear of the Ford. Both vehicles became engulfed with flames because of the crash.”
The motorcycle rider was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, Grieshaber said. The driver and passenger of the Ford were not injured.
The identity of the victim will be released through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
