A young woman and man suffered fatal gunshot wounds Friday in an apparent murder-suicide evidently carried out by the latter in his Nestor-area apartment.

After gunfire sounded inside the rental residence in the 2300 block of Grove Avenue, a relative of the 20-year-old man who lived there entered and found the bodies of the pair about 11 a.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.

“Based on the initial observations of the officers at the scene, it appears the most likely scenario is that the (man) shot the (woman), and then shot himself,” SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell said.

The man’s name has been withheld pending family notification. The woman, who is believed to have been in her late teens, remained unidentified in late Friday afternoon.

“Detectives are working … to gather evidence and interview witnesses,” the lieutenant said. “There (are no suspects) outstanding, as no one else appears to have been involved in this incident.”
