A half-acre vegetation fire was stopped Saturday off eastbound Interstate 8 at Morena Boulevard, fire officials said.

At 3:39 p.m., personnel in a firefighting helicopter reported that they could see no active flames. Subsequently, two helicopters were released, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The California Highway Patrol first reported “lots of dark smoke” at 3:06 p.m. in the riverbed under the freeway, and the fire department sent units to help.

At 3:15 p.m., the CHP shut down westbound I-8 at the Morena Boulevard off-ramp.

At 3:21 p.m., authorities reported a power pole on fire, with flames going up to the power lines.
