More than 60 Cal Fire San Diego firefighters battled a fire early Monday that destroyed the clubhouse of the historic de Anza Country Club in Borrego Springs.

When crews arrived at 4:40 a.m., about 75% of the clubhouse was involved flames, Cal Fire said on social media.

“Sad news to report. Our beautiful clubhouse at de Anza has burned. We don’t know the cause at this time, nor details on the timeline. Everything happened over night. Bighorn Room, Coyote Den, Ballroom, offices, locker rooms were all ruined. Golf Shop is okay,” the club tweeted on Monday afternoon.

No injuries were reported, and Cal Fire kept the blaze from spreading to other buildings and surrounding vegetation.

San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond said his “heart goes out to the Borrego Springs community after the devastating fire at De Anza Country Club this morning … My office will be doing all we can to support and assist the residents during this challenging time.”

The historic country club was established in 1957.
