Firefighters Friday extinguished a blaze that burned 60 acres of grass in the Otay Mountain Wilderness east of Otay Mesa.
Crews stopped the flames at 12:44 p.m. It’s unclear what caused it, Capt. Brent Pascua said, noting that fires are common in the area.
Cal Fire learned about the blaze just before 11:30 a.m., he said, adding that there have been no reported injuries and no structures are threatened.
The fire began by scorching between 10 and 15 acres while moving toward the U.S.-Mexico border.
“Conditions today are more favorable than they have been this week,” Pascua said, referring to earlier strong winds.
