A BMW hit a tree Sunday and knocked down a telephone pole at Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center.

The crash happened at 3:45 p.m. at 15954 Woods Valley Road, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log.

A 911 caller reported that the driver remained in the vehicle after the crash. The CHP said the BMW was smoking and the driver appeared to be injured, while also complaining of chest pain.
