ViaSat Inc., the Carlsbad-based producers of commercial, government, and consumer networking and security systems and services is opening its doors on Friday, Oct. 3, for National Manufacturing Day.

The company will host invited groups of local high school students and veterans to expand knowledge and awareness of manufacturing career opportunities in the high-tech sector from 8:30 a.m. to noon at its offices, 155 El Camino Real, Carlsbad.

Engineering and computer science degrees are often seen as the only path into well-paid high-tech jobs, but wireless companies like ViaSat also assemble and test many of the innovative products they design. While technical training and aptitude are needed, manufacturing can provide rewarding careers to individuals without requiring a college degree. The economic impact of local manufacturing operations is also significant.

ViaSat reports $1.3B annual revenue (most recent fiscal year), 1,800 local employees and is considered to be the largest high-tech electronics employer in North County. Its Nine-building, 450,000+ square foot campus in Carlsbad, including 67,000 square foot operations and manufacturing building Commercial, government, and consumer networking and security systems and services

On hand will be Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall and Asst. City Manager Kathy Dodson who will attend the event and provide opening remarks on the benefits to the local community.
