A Minnesota man who beat his younger brother to death during a fight over noise at their father’s San Marcos home is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday at the Vista Courthouse.
Michael Vincent Young, 57, pleaded guilty last month to voluntary manslaughter in the death of his 51-year-old brother, Robb.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the defendant confronted the victim about 6:30 a.m. Feb. 19 and accused him of being too noisy at their father’s home in the 1700 block of Victoria Way.
An argument and fistfight ensued, and the scuffling brothers wound up in the front yard, where the younger one was knocked out, sheriff’s Lt. Glenn Giannantonio said.
The defendant went back inside, leaving his younger brother on the ground. About 40 minutes later, the defendant went outside to check on his sibling and found he was not breathing, the lieutenant said.
The defendant tried to revive his brother, then flagged down a passing motorist and asked her to call 911. The woman’s husband and paramedics also tried in vain to save the victim, who was declared dead at a hospital.
An autopsy showed that the victim, also a Minnesota resident, died of blunt-force head injuries.
The defendant is expected to be sentenced to six years in state prison.
