A knife-wielding suspect was wounded Monday when police opened fire on him as he was assaulting another man on a Mission Valley roadside, authorities said.
The law enforcement shooting took place shortly before 11 a.m., following a brief foot chase that ended at Friars Road and Morena Boulevard, according to police.
The conditions of the suspect and the victim of the knife assault were not immediately available. No officers were injured during the confrontation.
Police shut down traffic lanes in the area to allow for an investigation of the incident.
The police shooting was the second of two that occurred in San Diego over a roughly 24-hour period.
About 11 p.m. Sunday, at least one SDPD officer opened fire on a man who was hiding in a patch of shrubbery near 47th Street Trolley Station after allegedly threatening his ex-girlfriend with a gun, grabbing their infant daughter and running off. The man, who was still with the child when he was shot, was expected to survive.
The baby was unharmed, according to police.
