A 39-year-old man was arrested Saturday in connection with a fatal stabbing at a La Mesa trolley station.

Stephen Calhoun of San Diego was arrested shortly before 8:30 a.m. in downtown San Diego with the help of San Diego police and the Metropolitan Transit System officials.

Police said he would be booked on suspicion of murder.

Officers from La Mesa responded at 8:40 p.m. Thursday to a report of a man down at the 70th Street Trolley Station at 7255 Alvarado Road. They found a man, 47, with an apparent stab wound to his chest, who was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital. He died a short time later.

It was unclear what led police to Calhoun, or what relationship he had, if any, with the victim.

Anyone with additional information was asked to call the La Mesa Police Department at 619-667-1400.
