SANDAG will close Nobel Drive and the southbound Interstate 5 on-ramp from Nobel Drive Wednesday to pour concrete for a new trolley bridge.

Work crews will close the street from 10 p.m. Wednesday evening to 5 a.m. Thursday morning and the on-ramp from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. The closure of Nobel Drive will span from the I-5 overpass to the entrances of the Shops at La Jolla Village and the La Jolla Village Square shopping center.

The closures are required to pour concrete on a trolley bridge above Nobel Drive. Work on the trolley bridge began in June. During the closures, crews will maintain public access to the entrances of the two shopping centers. The closure windows are subject to change due to the project’s complexity, according to SANDAG.

The closures are part of the $2.17 billion Mid-Coast Trolley Blue Line Extension, which includes an 11-mile extension of trolley service by San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit System from Old Town to University City. The extension will add nine new stations.

SANDAG is receiving $1.04 billion in funding from the Federal Transit Administration and expects to complete the project in 2021.
