A suspect in a shooting that left a man dead two months ago in a San Diego alley was behind bars Wednesday in a Midwest city following his arrest in the case, authorities reported.

Bryan Parker, 42, was taken into custody Tuesday in Pierre, South Dakota, in connection with the slaying of 52-year-old Wendell Eddington on May 16, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m. that day, patrol officers responding to reports of gunfire in a neighborhood between Interstate 805 and state Route 15 found Eddington mortally wounded by gunfire in the 4200 block of 35th Street, SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell said. The victim died at the scene.

Authorities are working to extradite Parker to San Diego to stand trial in the case, the lieutenant said.

Police have not disclosed a suspected motive for the shooting or revealed what led them to identify Parker as the alleged gunman.
