A young man suspected of groping and flashing women in University City over a seven-week period early this year was arrested Thursday.

Iniabasi Aniekeme Udom, 18, was taken into custody Thursday morning while leaving his home, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Udom allegedly groped or exposed himself to women in neighborhoods near UC San Diego on seven occasions between Jan. 2 and Feb. 17.

“One of the cases rose to the level of a felony sexual assault, while the others were misdemeanor cases,” SDPD public-affairs Lt. Adam Sharki said.

After alerting the public to the series of sex crimes two months ago and seeking the help of tipsters in identifying the perpetrator, police “received substantial tips from our community and allied law enforcement agencies,” the spokesman said.

“UCSD police contacted the lead SDPD investigator with information about a possible suspect,” the lieutenant said. “After an extensive investigation, which included witness statements and evidence review, detectives identified the (alleged assailant) as … Udom.”

The suspect was being held at San Diego Central Jail on $50,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Monday afternoon.

A fire late Friday morning at a home in a neighborhood near El Cajon is suspected to be an act of arson and a man is under arrest, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.

San Miguel Fire & Rescue crews were called just after 11 a.m. Friday to the 1900 block of Donohue Drive and contained the blaze before it could spread to nearby homes. No injuries were reported.

According to sheriff’s Detective Anthony Tripoli of the department’s Bomb/Arson Unit, the fire appeared suspicious to investigators.

“During the initial investigation, burn patterns consistent with ignitable liquid were observed,” Tripoli said.

Shaun Maize, 44, was arrested on a charge of arson. Tripoli did not provide any details about what led investigators to take Maize into custody. Jail records, which spell his first name Shawn, show he is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in the East County Superior Court.

A man suspected of vandalizing and burglarizing cars on the University of San Diego campus was arrested Thursday.

The San Diego Police Department was called just before 5:40 a.m. Thursday by USD’s Department of Public Safety, which claimed it had reported several cases of vandalism and stolen property over the last two weeks.

Local law enforcement was called after the suspect was seen driving into a parking garage in a gray Chevrolet Volt, later determined to be stolen, according to the SDPD.

Officers located the man inside the vehicle on a roof of a parking garage, according to the department.

Police say asked the suspect to exit the vehicle, but he allegedly denied their requests, which prompted SDPD’s SWAT team to be deployed. Using non-lethal force and a K-9 unit, the suspect eventually exited the vehicle and was arrested without injury.

An investigation was underway.

A woman suspected of fatally shooting an acquaintance whose decomposed body was found at a makeshift encampment in the Encanto area was behind bars Monday and facing a murder charge.

Jenei Chalon Pendleton, 34, was arrested in the Los Angeles area on Thursday in connection with the gunshot death of 62-year-old Leonard Watkins, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Watkins’ remains were discovered off the 400 block of 61st Street on the afternoon of Oct. 22. Exactly when he died was unclear.

Due to the state of decomposition of Watkins’ body, his cause of death was not readily apparent, SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell said. An autopsy determined that the victim had been shot in the upper body.

Pendleton was booked into Las Colinas women’s jail in Santee, where she was being held without bail pending trial.

Police have disclosed no suspected motive for the slaying.

An 18-year-old suspect was behind bars Tuesday in a shooting that left another young man fatally wounded last summer outside an El Cajon apartment building, authorities said.

Obaida Saad Ramadhan of El Cajon was booked on suspicion of murder Saturday in the shooting death of Jasiah White, also 18, according to the El Cajon Police Department.

Patrol officers responding to reports of gunfire found White mortally wounded in a parking lot in the 400 block of Dominguez Way shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 19, Sgt. Tenaya Webb said.

Paramedics took the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives have determined that Ramadhan and White were acquainted and had gotten into a dispute on a previous occasion, according to police, who have not disclosed the nature of the disagreement between the two young men.

“A few days after the murder, Ramadhan left the United States to visit family abroad,” Webb said. “When he returned, he was taken into custody immediately upon his arrival in San Diego.”

Ramadhan was being held at San Diego Central Jail without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

A GoFundMe page was created in support of White’s family. The fundraiser had drawn $1,220 in donations toward a $5,000 goal as of Tuesday afternoon.
