The suspect in a fatal East Village shooting last month was arrested Thursday during a traffic stop in El Cajon, according to San Diego police.

Investigators had identified the suspect as Tashaughn Jackson, 44.  At approximately 10:30 a.m. he was taken into custody during the stop, on westbound Interstate 8 near Main Street. Police booked him into San Diego County Jail on a murder charge.

On the afternoon of Feb. 18, the victim Ali Jabbar, 43, of San Diego, was walking with a group in the 600 block of 16th Street, police said. A gunman approached them, and apparently targeting the victim, shot Jabbar multiple times. The shooter then ran to a nearby vehicle and drove to the north, then eastbound towards the 94 freeway.

Jabbar later died at a hospital.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
