One person is in custody after a fatal shooting in Chula Vista late Saturday, but law enforcement is still seeking information from the public.
Chula Vista police say they responded to a flurry of calls about shots fired in the 200 block of Center Street at around 11 p.m., including at least one call saying that a man had been shot.
Officers were flagged down by people on Center Street near Third Avenue, where they found a 36-year-old San Diego man in a truck with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of medics, he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Police were able to track down a suspect, 32-year-old Christian Benavides from San Diego, in an older white pickup truck, based on witness descriptions. He is now facing murder charges.
