Officers arrested one person on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs at a DUI checkpoint in National City, authorities said Sunday.
The checkpoint was conducted from 6 p.m. Saturday to midnight in the 1300 block of East 30th Street.
A total of 1,642 cars passed through the checkpoint, with 751 motorists stopped for secondary evaluations, according to the Chula Vista Police Department.
Three drivers were given field sobriety tests, 30 unlicensed or suspended license citations were issued and five vehicles were impounded.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads, according to police.
