The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County dropped Sunday for the 13th consecutive day and 16th time in the last 17 days, decreasing three-tenths of a cent to $5.269.

The average price has dropped 9 cents over the past 17 days, including nine-tenths of a cent Saturday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

It is 4.7 cents less than one week ago and 8.3 cents lower than one month ago, but 43.8 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.166 since rising to a record $6.435 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The national average price dropped seven-tenths of a cent to $3.619. It is 3.4 cents less than one week and 1.5 cents less than one month ago, but 7.7 cents higher than one year ago. It has dropped $1.397 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.

“Tepid pre-Memorial Day domestic demand and oil costs below $80 a barrel are the likely reasons for the dropping prices nationally,” said Andrew Gross, an AAA national public relations manager. “Most consumers will probably see pump prices barely budging for now.”
