Officials with the County of San Diego have confirmed a second case of measles in 2024.
The 47-year-old resident recently traveled overseas and has been hospitalized, the county Health and Human Services agency said in a release Sunday. They may have exposed others at a number of locations in Encinitas and Carlsbad.
The most recent confirmed case prior to this was last month in an unvaccinated infant who had also traveled overseas; however, these two cases are not connected.

Measles is one of the most contagious infectious diseases. It can be airborne or spread through droplets. It can be spread through coughing and sneezing or simply by being in the same room as someone who is infected.
Measles symptoms include coughing, sneezing, runny nose, and conjunctivitis, followed by white sores in the mouth and a characteristic rash of red spots that can spread over the entire body. It can also have serious complications, such as pneumonia or encephalitis.
