As San Diego Mojo nears the end of its opening season, the women’s volleyball team will play its final three home games at Viejas Arena, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Mojo (8-9) faces the Vegas Thrill (6-13). The Thrill lead the season series 2-1, having swept the first meeting in Las Vegas on Feb. 19 and won in five sets in San Diego 10 days later. The Mojo swept the last match on the road on March 24, the first road victory and sweep in franchise history.
San Diego, in fourth place in the league, enters play on Friday having won six of their last nine matches, with a 3-1 mark at home. Vegas is going the other way, with losses in five of their last six.
Last time out, the Mojo topped the Omaha Supernovas in five sets, San Diego’s league-record fourth consecutive five-set match.
San Diego had a quartet of players collect double-doubles, led by Temi Thomas-Ailara, who scored a match-high 27 points, recording 22 kills, four blocks and a service ace while also tallying 17 digs.
In her home debut, Willow Johnson scored 18 points (14 kills, three blocks, one ace) with 15 digs, and Lindsey Vander Weide scored 16 points (11 kills, five blocks) and had 14 digs.
After Friday’s match, San Diego hosts the Orlando Valkyries on Military Night at 7 p.m. Monday and the Columbus Fury at 7 p.m. May 7. Their final game of the season is May 11 in Columbus.
